Rio Reiser war von 1970 bis Mitte der 1980er Frontmann der Band Ton Steine Scherben. Er war aktiv in der Berliner Hausbesetzer-Szene, für die er auch den Rauch-Haus-Song schrieb. Aufgrund des politischen Trubels kam er nach eigener Auffassung jedoch nicht mehr zu seiner Kunst, weshalb er seit Juni 1975 auf einem Bauernhof in Fresenhagen lebte. Rio Reiser sang hauptsächlich in seiner Muttersprache, es sind aber auch einige englisch- und italienischsprachige Stücke bekannt. Nach der Auflösung der Band setzte er seine musikalische Karriere als Solokünstler fort. Zu seinen bekanntesten Kompositionen gehören Macht kaputt, was euch kaputt macht von 1971, Keine Macht für Niemand von 1972 und König von Deutschland von 1986.
